This was a triumph.

We're making a note, here: On three separate fronts, reddit gold has emerged as what can only be termed a huge success:
  1. We're getting a much-needed cash infusion.
  2. We've shown that, despite popular belief, people on the Internet are willing to be supportive if you treat them with honesty and respect.
  3. It's given everyone involved with reddit a good kick in the pants right when we needed it.
It's hard to overstate your benefaction. And it means so much to us to be able to read through the comment threads and see that virtually everyone out there is pulling for reddit. And it's not just the comments &mdash as you can see below, the postcards have started to roll in. One Wired employee even dropped by the office to bring us a gift certificate to the company cafeteria.
It's clear that we're going to have to redouble our efforts to serve you now ("We do what we can, because we must."). As soon as possible, we're going to start giving our gold supporters something more than just a trophy. Now that the pilot has succeeded so well, we're going to grow reddit gold into a bona fide subscription service a la TotalFark or Ars Technica. In other words, there are some cool things coming that would be impossible for us to do for eight million active users, but totally feasible to bring to the 6000 or so who have taken a leap of faith with us so far. As always, we're taking suggestions for which cool things we should work on first. Our aim is to get something out to you by this time next week.

But it's not just gold members who will benefit. Oh, no, the infusion we received this past weekend is for the good of all of us (except the ones who are banned). The first thing we're going to do is spin up additional servers that should smooth out the potholes in our recent site performance. These aren't special private business-class servers for paying customers only. They're being added to the general pool.

Oh, and there's One More Thing coming soon that you guys are gonna love.

...and /r/science gets fun, and you make a neat pun, for the people who are still online...
